CHAM Endocrinology and Diabetes Specialists Present Research, Two Receive Special Recognition at Pediatric Endocrine Society Annual Meeting

Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) Endocrinology and Diabetes specialists showcased their expertise during this year’s annual meeting of the Pediatric Endocrine Society (PES) with presentations highlighting their research in addition to case reports that highlighted novel findings.

Laurie E. Cohen, MD, and Molly O. Regelmann, MD, received special recognition for their commitment to PES leadership.

Laurie E. Cohen, MD, Chief, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and Professor, Pediatrics (Endocrinology and Diabetes), Albert Einstein College of Medicine, marked the end of her three-year term on the PES Board of Directors.

Molly O. Regelmann, MD, Fellowship Program Director and Attending Physician, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and Associate Professor, Pediatrics (Endocrinology and Diabetes), Albert Einstein College of Medicine, who served on the 2023 PES Program Committee, was named Co-Chair of the 2024 Program Committee.

CHAM presenters included:

• Dr. Cohen, Dr. Regelmann and Lisa J. Underland, DO, Attending Physician, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics (Endocrinology and Diabetes), Albert Einstein College of Medicine, contributed to the research study titled “The Rise of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus During COVID-19,” which was presented at the PES annual meeting.
• Dr. Regelmann; Morri E. Markowitz, MD, Director, Lead Poisoning Prevention and Treatment Program, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and Professor, Pediatrics (Endocrinology and Diabetes), Albert Einstein College of Medicine; Carly Barron, MD, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Fellow; and Shilpa Guntaka, MD, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Fellow, presented a report titled “Severe Hypercalcemia in an Older Infant with Transient Disaccharidase Deficiency.”
• Dr. Cohen, Dr. Regelmann and Dr. Markowitz; Tamar G. Baer, MD, Associate Fellowship Program Director, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics (Endocrinology and Diabetes), Albert Einstein College of Medicine; and Drs. Barron and Guntaka, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Fellows, participated in the case report titled “Dexamethasone Swish and Spit, a Cause of Iatrogenic Adrenal Insufficiency.”
• Dr. Cohen, Dr. Regelmann and Dr. Baer; and Paul A. Levy, MD, Attending Physician, Clinical Biochemical Genetics and Clinical Genetics, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and Associate Professor, Pediatrics (Genetic Medicine) and Pathology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine; and Lauren Iacono, MD, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Fellow, participated in the case report titled “Potential Germline Mosaicism in Siblings with Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome: Considerations for Genetic Counseling.”

Dr. Cohen also participated in a case series with colleagues from Massachusetts General Hospital titled “Experience with Pituitary Gigantism at a Tertiary Care Center—A Case Series.”

The more than 1,600 members of PES are dedicated to research and the treatment of children with endocrine disorders and represent all the disciplines of pediatric endocrinology.
