In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the International Council for Caring Communities (ICCC) honored the international leaders who have enabled its success and supported its mission, including Montefiore Einstein’s Matthew N. Bartels, MD, MPH, Chair, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Montefiore Einstein, and Professor, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Bartels received the ICCC Caring Citizen of the Humanities–Rehabilitation Medicine Award during the organization’s Raising the Roof Celebration: Imagining Sustainable Cities and Communities at United Nations Headquarters in New York City in November.
The award was established to recognize leaders whose visionary foresight, leadership and creative endeavors have enhanced society in accordance with ICCC’s mission of care for all ages. Dr. Bartels was honored for his work as a global leader in rehabilitation through his contributions that include establishing the Human Performance Laboratory at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, providing new models of technology use to improve care, advancing the use of 3D printing for medical equipment and fostering the adaptation of telehealth to provide advice around the world.
The ICCC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to showcasing innovations that address global longevity challenges and opportunities. This mission spans a large range of activities, including education and training, urban planning and design, health, information and communication technology, public-private partnerships, tourism and public administration.
