At Montefiore New Rochelle, the healing properties of flower power are on display in The Queen City Art Gallery’s newest summer exhibit, Hannah Jupiter’s “The Joy of Flowers.”
Jupiter’s collection features “flower arrangements” constructed from a multitude of materials, from vintage gardening books to wrapping paper. The physical collages are often finished with resin or enlarged through digital means to amp up the level of drama. The collection’s title, “The Joy of Flowers,” pulls its name from “Simchah,” a Hebrew word for joy, happiness and celebration.
“The pieces in the collection allow you, the viewer, a chance to take a moment to pause and reflect. To appreciate not only the work itself, but your connection to the beauty and completeness of the flowers and one’s self,” said Jupiter.
Since 2011, Jupiter has helped to build art programs in nursing homes throughout the five boroughs and has spent the last 10 years teaching art to children with language-based learning disabilities. Through her newest collection on display at The Queen City Art Gallery, she hopes to bring more light into her New Rochelle community.
The Queen City Art Gallery, a collaboration between the Montefiore Fine Art Program and Collection and the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, is located on the main lobby level of Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital at 101 Glover Johnson Place, New Rochelle, New York. Led by Jodi Moise, Director, the Montefiore Einstein Fine Art Program and Collection, and Curator, The Queen City Art Gallery, the gallery presents three rotating exhibitions per year, featuring original work from local Westchester County artists in support of Montefiore Einstein’s mission to heal, teach and advance the health of the communities it serves.
“The Joy of Flowers” will run through late August. Follow updates on Jupiter and her artwork throughout the community.
