“The Wakefield Campus celebrates 15 years of serving our community and embracing hope,” said Regginald Jordan, FACHE, Vice President, Clinical Services, and Executive Director, Montefiore Wakefield and Montefiore Mount Vernon. “Together, we created a legacy of delivering the best quality healthcare, which touches and transforms lives. Here’s to the past, present and a future filled with providing compassionate, world-class care to our patients and their families.”
In its 15-year history, Montefiore Wakefield Hospital has expanded its reach and impact by adding and enhancing services ranging from urology, neurology and outpatient psychiatry to orthopedics. Its outstanding orthopedics care resulted in The Joint Commission’s “Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Knee Replacement,” the only certification offered in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons for hip and knee replacement surgeries.
The hospital has delivered more than 30,000 babies in the past 15 years. It has been named as a Baby-Friendly birth facility from Baby-Friendly USA, a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which acknowledges the outstanding quality of breastfeeding and patient care outcomes.
The day of celebration included free health screenings for community members, many booths with useful health information and activities for the kids.
The Montefiore Einstein Community Affairs office joined the celebration with its annual back-to-school giveaway, providing 350 kits that included backpacks and a treasure trove of grade-appropriate writing and other necessary school supplies to community children.
The event was attended by Montefiore Einstein leaders, including Jordan, Peter. P. Semczuk, DDS, MPH, Senior Vice President and Executive Director, Moses and Wakefield Campuses, Lilliam A. Perez, Vice President, Government and Community Relations, Montefiore Einstein, Marcos A. Crespo, Senior Vice President, Community Affairs, Montefiore Einstein, Melissa Cebollero, Associate Vice President, Community Affairs, Montefiore Einstein, and Board Chair James M. Butler. They were joined by Bronx elected officials, including New York State Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie, Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz, State Senator Jamaal T. Bailey and New York City Council Member Kevin C. Riley, who offered proclamations of praise for the hospital’s outstanding work and the staff’s enduring service.
