Free Workshop to Help Montefiore Einstein Caregivers Better Cope with Grief and Loss

Healing Loss, a free, three-day residential workshop available to Montefiore Einstein associates since 2013, is designed to help caregivers better cope with grief and loss. It is offered by the Montefiore Healing Arts Program and Human Resources Department, and it takes place at the Stony Point Center, Stony Point, New York. Workshops, which are limited to 20 people each, are scheduled for October 12–14, 2022 and March 8–10, 2023.

Caregiving is a gratifying profession that can have a profound effect on people’s personal and professional lives. It can also be stressful and emotionally difficult—especially when loved ones, or those under our care, die.

There have been so many losses that many of us have experienced over the past several years, in our work, our personal lives, our community. With so much loss and change, we often don’t have the space or the tools to help grieve these losses, to heal, to find our wholeness again.

The Healing Loss workshop is a powerful experiential and educational program that enables participants to identify and work through challenges faced by caregivers. Led by experienced facilitators, participants leave with new tools for self-care and healing to help build resilience when facing stress in the future.

“So many of us are caregivers, who are dedicated and expert at caring for others, but not so often for ourselves. The Healing Loss workshop offers an opportunity for people to come together in a safe, supportive, confidential setting, to start to work through and heal our losses, find our resilience, decrease the burden of stress, and ultimately be better caregivers for ourselves and others,” said Peter A. Selwyn, MD, MPH, Professor and Chair, Family and Social Medicine, and Director, Palliative Care Program, Montefiore Einstein.

The workshop, which is private and confidential, is free of charge and all clinical and nonclinical Montefiore Einstein associates are welcome. Meals will be provided as well as sleeping accommodations for Wednesday and Thursday nights. Transportation to and from the conference center is provided for those who need it.

For nurses and social workers, 24 continuing education unit credits are available, and 24 continuing medical education credits are available for physicians. COVID-19 vaccination and registration are required. Interested caregivers can register at montefiore.org/healingloss.
