Dean Gordon Tomaselli will step down as the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Dean of Albert Einstein College of Medicine and will continue in his role until the end of the academic year in July 2023 or earlier if a successor is found.

It has been the honor and privilege of a lifetime to serve as the Dean at my alma mater. I am exceptionally proud of the work everyone at the College of Medicine has done during my tenure.

Under Dean Tomaselli’s leadership, there have been many milestone accomplishments, including becoming a fully accredited, independent degree granting medical school; exceeding the $200 million mark for NIH funding; revamping the medical school curriculum and reorganizing the basic science departments. His national reputation helped him attract a diverse team of leaders in their fields.
When COVID and its devastating effects hit our community, Dean Tomaselli answered the call with an unwavering commitment to our mission. The entire Einstein community should take great pride in the role they played under his leadership during one of the most challenging times in our institution’s history.
Dean Tomaselli’s legacy will undoubtedly be the extraordinary community he has created—all motivated by a shared commitment to transformational research and care.

Dean Tomaselli earned his medical degree at Einstein in 1982 and went on to become one of the nation’s most renowned physician-scientists in cardiovascular disease. After three decades at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, he returned to his alma mater in 2018 and led Einstein through a period of unprecedented change.
The essence of Einstein, its people, their passion and commitment, has been unwavering since my time here as a student. This is the quality that will ensure that Einstein will continue to thrive long after any of our times here. I remain as strongly committed to the College of Medicine and Health System as I was as a student and will continue to support Einstein in any way I can in the next phase of my career.
