Montefiore New Rochelle (MNR), with its Joint Solutions Program, has received recertification from The Joint Commission for total hip and knee replacement surgery for another two years.
The Joint Commission certification program is an internationally recognized symbol of quality, with an emphasis on patient care and safety. Hospitals must undergo a rigorous review to determine if they meet the high standards for the transition of care from the presurgical consultation to intraoperative hospitalization or ambulatory surgery center (ASC) admission to rehabilitation activities and follow-up visits with the orthopedic surgeon.
With Montefiore New Rochelle’s Joint Solutions Program, the combined efforts of the departments of Orthopedics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Nursing, and Pain Management and Utilization ensure patients are receiving the excellent level of care needed for The Gold Seal of Approval® awarded by The Joint Commission.
Montefiore New Rochelle’s approach to total joint replacement centers on wellness. Rather than understand their procedures as surgery for the ill, it is framed as a choice for self-improvement of healthy people. This wellness approach is integrated into every step of the process, from education and preadmission training of participants to diagnosis and surgery to the postprocedural course of recuperation and rehabilitation.
“This achievement demonstrates our commitment to providing the highest quality care to joint replacement patients in our community,” said Shannon Wales, Director, Quality and Regulatory Affairs, Montefiore New Rochelle.
“Working directly with the patient and their caregivers, from preadmission through the postprocedural process, helps me educate them for this life-altering process to ensure their success and pave the way for a more productive and pain-free life,” said Peggy Coll, MS, RN, FNP-BC, Nurse Practitioner, the Joint Solutions Program Coordinator, Montefiore New Rochelle.
