Now in its second decade of partnership, Montefiore Einstein joined other community leaders and the Office of the Bronx Borough President in support of Bronx Week 2023, 13 days of borough-based events and activities for people of all ages. From free health screenings and a shoreline walking tour to a “Bronx Salad” tasting, Montefiore Einstein helped to celebrate the people and places that make the Bronx such a special place to live and work.
Where City and Nature Meet
The beauty and bounty of the Bronx River Garden, one of the oldest community gardens in the borough, was the focus of a guided Food and Farm walking tour presented by Montefiore Einstein. The Food and Farm Tour also included stops at Starlight Park and the Concrete Plant Park, a former 6.28-acre processing plant repurposed to include walking paths, a kayak launch site and the Bronx River Foodway, home to one of New York City’s only edible food forests. The NYC Parks GreenThumb, the Bronx River Alliance and other preservation-minded community groups added support.

A Healthy Taste of the Bronx
Montefiore Einstein took part in an open-air resource fair in St. Mary’s Park, offering free health screenings, educational sessions, food demonstrations and a chance to sample the popular Bronx Salad, provided by natural foods vendor and long-term partner B Blossom Catering. The salad, a nutritious mix of fresh greens, corn, black beans, plantain chips, avocados, mangos and other natural ingredients, was created to represent the culinary diversity of the Bronx—and to remind everyone that healthy, “good-for-you” food is a meal to be savored and enjoyed.
Also on hand were Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center’s Bronx Oncology Living Daily (BOLD) and the Managed Long-Term Care (MLTC) teams, who helped raise awareness of new treatments and support programs available through the hospital.

Reaching Out to the Community
Montefiore Einstein closed Bronx Week, once again hosting the annual health pavilion at Lou Gehrig Plaza, where the Montefiore Einstein cardiac team offered free blood pressure screenings. Information about substance abuse was also available throughout the day.
Marcos Crespo, Senior Vice-President, Community Affairs, summed up the importance of Montefiore Einstein’s ongoing participation in Bronx Week. “Montefiore Einstein stands proud as an annual supporter and cheerleader of all that the Bronx is and can be!” he said.
